| Old to New: Magazines |
I plan to have Old to New as a regular feature. Old to New will show specific examples of how ordinary, everyday items can be turned into something fabulous.
This week, I'll be talking about Magazine pages. Images from magazines (and greeting cards) can be cut out and then used to decorate new cards, scrapbooks, or anything that you can glue it to. And it's super easy!
What you need:
- Scissors, preferably small-tipped, sharp scissors.
- Old magazines
- Tape, glue stick, and/or decoupage glue
First: Flip through your old magazines, cutting out ANY image, letters, or design that appeals to you. Remember, some images look best when cut right on it's outline. However, some intricate patterns would be impossible to that to, and therefore could be cut near the outline.
Second: Decide on a project. Some ideas could be: scrapbooking; card-making; and decorations for posters, lampshades, decorative plates, etc.
Third: Decide on the best method to affix the image to your project. Ex: For scrapbooking, use a glue stick. Too much glue could ruin an otherwise perfect project. Ex: For decoupaging, use a glue stick to attach the image, wait for it to dry, then cover with the necessary layers of decoupage glue. For information on decoupage, click here.
Fourth: Display your beautiful new project! And remember, you may not always get it perfect on the first try. If not, don't give up, just try again. You'll have it in no time!
In light of this post, I ransacked my old magazine stash to find some examples of images you can cut out. I found two old bridal magazines and went to town cutting out anything that could be used in some other project. I didn't have a specific project in mind, but that's good, because I can store all those images for a perfect project down the road. The pictures I took of them aren't that great, but it gives you an idea of how many cut outs you can get from just two magazines!
